GRAIN AND PRODUCE MARKETS,

Saturdays ‘Press’ says : —The late rain* have done an immense deal of good to llie growing crops, and in districts where the harvest is in full swing, and farmers have some facts to go upon, the yield in almost every case is found to exceed anticipations. This will doubtless, bo found to be the case generally, and notwithstanding that some crops in the driest lands will not be worth reaping, the average yield throughout the province will not, it is estimated by practical farmers, be much under hist season’s. No m-w wheat has yet been offered, and no anxiety is shown by traders to operate. The English market continues exceedingly dull, and we fear low prices will have to be accepted to permit of shipment at a profit. Oats are beginning to come in, earliest deliveries fetching 3s Gd. For future delivery, say in a month’s time, wo have heard of no buyers over 3s, and with advices of a rapidly falling market in Melbourne. some traders are not prepared to pay over 2s 9d. Barley prices are unsettled, transactions in this cereal beingstill few and unimportant. English barley is quoted in the Melbourne market at 5s Gd, and Cape barley* at 4s 3d to 4s Gd. Flour is for the moment firm at £lO, but only a retail trade is being done. Bran and sharps are wanted at £5 ss, f.o.b , sacks included. Potatoes are sold in small lots at £7 to £B. Butter is inclined to become tinner sellers now asking 9d. Choose is also hardening, and GUI litis been paid for prime quality. Hams and bacon continue in good demand at 8d in cloth.
