It is a startling fact that over 10,000 persons of unbound. mind are confined in the lunatic asylums of the United States, driver, mad from over excitement caused by Spiritualism. Many of the auditors of the so-call ‘d media confist chiefly of weakminded, hysterical persons, who would believe a'most anything they were told. Hearing imaginary voices, the so-called ■‘auricular 1 delirium,” so common in monomania, is one of their prominent symptnns. Insanity frmn this cause is now very prevalent in England, and is increasing day by day. Persons in whom the delusion in spiritual belief has for a time been dormant, are now becoming the victims of an exaggerated form, of unsoundness, only attributable to the revivalism of a belief which has sprung up with fresli ardour, and is, alas ! adding new victims to the cmnmunity. Fanaticism and religions epidemics were formerly very prevalent in England, and a well organised variety of mental epidemic termed demonomania, existed to a large extent many years ago, hut died a natural death, tbe originators and npho'ders of its doctrines having passed from the scene, and the excitement having - abated, but only to be followed by a new variety of insanity, termed “Spiritual Mania.’—Exchange.
