Siemens, the lately r -tired President of the Iron ami Steel Institute, and one who combines in his own person (as I believe), a greater amount of practical and theoretical knowledge of the properties of iron ores than any one in this country. I enclose a copy of his reply, and could much wish that the result had been more immediately cucourayiny. Wo must, however, hope that the development of the coal resources of Now. Zealand will in lime bring about the profitable employment of the metals which this sand contains. You wil ! see from the last paragraph in Dr Siemcu’s loiter that he is under a misapprehension in supposing that friends of mine contemplated embarking in a commercial speculation. This, however, is of no moment, but I attach great weight to his opinion, and believe with him, that in the present state of the iron and steel
