GERALDINE ROAD BOARD.

A special meeting of the Board was held on Tuesday, the" 17th instant, in the Road Board office, Geraldine. Present— Messrs Wm. Postlethwai'te (chairman), James Hay, and Wm. Upton Slack.

The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. / f

The following tenders were raid and considered : -

Patrick Burke, L 360, accepted. No. 02 : Rangitata River-bed road, Webb and Woolfenden, L 110; John Sugrue, L 96, accepted No. 03 : Wells' road, R. P. Wells, Ll 9 10s. • ■ -. : ••-

resolved : That Mr Well's tender be accepted conditionally, that he agrees to reduce his tender to the estimated cost, LI 7.105, No. 04 : Waihi Gorge road, Daniel-. Gregon, L 125 ; Arthur Coles, L 125, acV cepted> Mr Lewis Grant waited upon the Board offering to lease a gravel reserve at a rental of L2 per annum for fourteen years. Resolved : That Mr Grant's offer bo considerec. at the next ordinary meeting. Mr Joseph Lewis waited upon the. Board with reference to a small plot pf" land the. Board wished to purchase fromhim for a road to the river-bed. ■'•■■ Mr John Bell interviewed the Board,' with reference to taking gravel out of the-'i river-bed near Lewis's. • The following resolutions were passed ;. —That the overseer report upon the same and arrange the'matter with Mr Lewis to buy a road to the river-bed if possible." " That an advertisement be inserted that all rates, must be paid to Mr Sherratt on Tuesdays aud Fridays in each week at the Road Board office.' - i ■ The following correspondence -wasread and considered :—From the Under-Secre-tary, Wellington, dated 10th December, stating that the Government have eeived a further letter from the Mpunt Peel Road Board upon the matter of severance, and that the Government ■would adhere to its decision forwarded under date sth November. Resolved : "That the clerk acknowledge the receipt of the same." From J. and W. Bull, dated 16th December, asking ten days extension of time, to complete their contract. Granted. From Mr O. G. Bradley, drawing the attention of the Board to the dangerous state of the road at Rcdcliffc. Resolved: That.the same stand-over until after har.-_ vest. From the Bank of New Zealand, Geral-. dine, enclosing a list of fixed deposits and the date when they mature. Proposed by Mr Slack, seconded by Mr' Hay, and carried : That an advertisement be inserted in the Christchureh and" Timaru papers inviting tenders fronrthe ;£, different Banks for the deposit and the current account of the Geraldine: Road Board for the ensuing year. The particulars can be obtained on application to the chairman. '' From the Deputy Land Tax Commissioner, dated 10th December, requesting a copy of the valuation list of the. district of the latest dare.
