The Sydney ‘ Evening News ’ says Sir Hercules Robinson has been offered, and will accept, the governorship of New Zealand. The statement is contradicted in Wellington. Eleven hundred people joined Father Henneberry’s procession in Auckland last Sunday. The news from the D’Urville copper mines is encouraging.

A heavy rain fell about Wellington on Sunday morning, and did a good deal of damage to both roads and bridges. A severe hafistorm damaged crops and broke windows about Picton on Monday. Christchurch and Sydenham contri uted L3OOO to the Waimate Relief Fund. Mr Ollivier collected L 2640 of this amount.

The Clutha continues to scour away the bank at Balclutha at a rapid rate. Protective works are to be commenced at once.
