It is improbable the Ameer wi 1 defend Candahar. It is believed he possesses seventy-1 u o battalions of infantiy, twenty-five regiments of cavalry, arms of modern pattern, and twenty-five guns. Bombay, Dec. 6. Intelligence of the capture of Piwar Pass by General Roberts’, force, alter a second severe engagement, has bean received. All the guns and ammunition of the enemy fell into Ihe hands of the British, with heavy loss to the Afghans. The victory was complete. - The British loss was. killed and wounded, four officers and eighty men. London, Dec. 5. Among other matters mentioned in the speech at the opening of Parliament, suitable redress is to be demanded from the Ameer at the conclusion of hostilities. In the House of Commons the Undersecretary for India gave notice of a resolution that the expense of the war should be charged to the Indian Exchequer. Dec. 9. It is reported that Shere Ali has fled. Calcutta, Dec. 8 (midnight.) A conciliatory and submissive rep'y to the ultimatum lias been received from the Ameer. It professes to have been written previously to, but is believed to have been written after the defeat at Ali Musjid.
