There is milling doing in the grain markets of thp. colony. Wheat is still slow of movement. Nominal prices for this grain are : —At Timaru 3s lOd, at Chii.-tchtmh 3s 9.1. Oats 3s lOd to 4s 2d. T 1 i« grain will probably advance in price if the dry eather last much longer, as it will be in greater demand for feed. The young oat crops on the higher plains have been so much knocked about and parched by the winds that they can scarcely be expected to fully recover. Potatoes arn scarce, but not in demand, as the new crop will very shortly be available. New potatoes are quoted in Auckland at +6 to £B. Butter is slow of sale at Christchurch at Gd to Sd f.o.b. Fat entile sold last week at Christchurch, at from 35s to 37s Gd for best, and 27s Gd to 30s per lOOlbs for inferior. In the local markets horses of all kinds continue saleable at fair prices, though the demand does not appear to be quite so "ood as previously. Good hacks and carriage horses are wanted at Christchin h. The land s-L-s last week amounted to 1508 a'Tfs, 123 of which were in the Geialdine county. Among the sales of private properly last week we''e Mr Lance's property at Avonside for L3OO per acre ; 20 acres at the Styx for L7OO, and a quarter-acre in C.slu-1 street for L 550.
