The Clerk was directed to write to the Ashburton County Council, stating that ns residents on the banks of the Rangitata river for the last twenty years are of opinion that 1 it is useless attempting to confine the waters of that river, but would advise that the bridge be lengthened -with iron cylinders, as they are fully of opinion that wooden piles cannot be driven in the river to the depth required to ensure safety from the scour of the water, as it i s well known that there are larger boulders in the Rangitata than in any river in Canterbury, besides wooden piles being perishable material, wheras iron cylinders are permanent.
Accounts to the amount of £224 6s lOd were passed for payment. The Board then adjourned.
