GRAIN AND PRODUCE MARKET. The ‘ Press’ of October 19 reports ; In wheat we have no transactions to note this week. The market continues exceedingly dull, and exports have almost entirely ceased, with the exception of purchases on ships’ account. Some millers want wheat, but are holding off looking for still easier prices. Values may be" quoted at, 3s 10d to 4s, but there is no business doing. Oats are not quite so brisk, but prices are firm at 4s to 4s 2d. Barley, although greatly wanted, is quite unobtainable, every available bushel having been shipped to Melbourne, which values have run up to the extreme figure of 9s 3d. Very light malt stocks are held, and with the present demand must be exhausted long before the new barley crop comes in. Malsters now ask 7s - 9d, and sales of extra choice quality are 2’eported at Bs. Flour is very weak, and sales have been made at £9 ss, to clear. Millers’ quotations are £lO to £lO 10s, f.o.b. Holders of potatoes are pushing sales, but find the market everywhere glutted. Prices have fallen to £3 5s to £3 7s 6d, f.0.b., sacks included. Dairy produce remains as last quoted. In hams and bacon an increasing trade has been done at 7id bare, and 8d in cloth.
