This firm had sold co" s during the week at from L 4 5s to LlO ss. Messrs Jonas, Hart, and Wildie, report that fat cattle are in good demand, with moderate supply ; value about 40s per lOOlbs. Mr Gaukrodges clearing sale was well attended, and good prices obtained. Saturday's Christchurch ‘Press’has the following on grain and produce : Private telegraphic advices from England this week report a serious drop in wheat since last intelligence. Best New Zealand wheat is quoted at 455. with a further decline not unexpected. This price shows a very sudden fall, as compared with recent telegrams, but, without further particulars we are unable to state the reason for this unlooked for drop. The decline in price must seriously affect values here, as the bulk of what is now in store must be shipped to England, and traders are not likely to operate without a corresponding reduction. Oats are without change, values being very firm at 4s to 4s 2d. The Melbourne market is again getting bare, and as there are some fair orders lately received, some sellers seek an advance. Barley of the most inferior description commands almost any price. Plour is very dull. Best brands are quoted at LIO. Potatoes are being moved off at L2 18s to L 3 in small lots, whilst large lines are offering without finding purchasers. Butter is easier, and can now be bought for lOd. Cheese continues in good demand at s|d. Hams and bacon are in exceTeht enquiry at 7|d bare, and 8d cloth.
