GERALDINE ROAD BOARD.
The usual monthly meeting was held on Tuesday, the Ist October, in the Road Board office. Present—Messrs William Postlethwaite (Chair-man), James Hay, William Deßenzy, and Frederick R. Flatman. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The following tenders for works were accepted ; No. 33, Shingling Boundary Road, James Wilkinson, £l4O. No. 36, Hawke’s Footbridge, Arthur Coles, £l2 ss. No. 39, Shingling near Toomey’s, Cornelius Leary, £167 13s 6d. No. 40, Shingling Tripp’s Road, Hammond and Fifield, £B9 10s. No. 41, Lewis to Curran’s, John and William Bell, £294 9s 2d. No. 42, Pipeclay Cutting, Timothy Herlihy, £72. No 43, Opihißiver Roao. Timothy Herlihy, £l4O. No. 44, Whitaker’s Road, Gripp and Jorgensen, L6O (accepted conditionally). No. 45, Jones’ to Collett’s, N. P. Bracefield, £144 13s 6d No. 46, near Dale’s, Jonas Fifield, £lO (accepted conditionally). No. 47, Ray’s Track, Webb and Co., Ll 9 10s. No 48, RaukapukaDowns, Webb and Co., L 99185. No. 49, Cemetery Road, George Hipworth, L 45. No 50, Orari Bridge, George Hip worth, L 55 (accepted conditionally that the Mount Peel Hoad Board agree to pay the cost when the severance takes place). CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence re the proposed severance of a portion of the district to be added to the Mount Peel district was read. The proposed new boundary is the centre of the Orari river bed from Tripp’s cutting to about 20 chains below the Orari bridge. At the suggestion of Mr Flatman, it If was resolved to request the Government to delay proclaiming the alteration a few months so that there need be only one .election'. An application for the formation of a private road was presented. The Board resolved to defer the matter until a legal opinion be obtained as to the Board forming such roads. Mr E. H. Tate wrote informing the Board that their share of the proceeds of the sale of the late Board of Works offices was L 166 13s 4d. Messrs Ingram and White offering 1 lack birch timber at 20s. It was resolved to give an order for what is required for the Orari bridge. The Secretary to the Treasury wrote informing the Board that L 2030 4s 4d had been paid to its credit, being its share of the funds due to the county at June 30. The tender of MrO. R. Shaw for a new ~ map of the district (L 120) was accepted. The overseei was instructed to report on the road from Hardcastle’s to Fore Peaks, and upon an application for a footbridge over the Waihi, near Lewis’s. The overseer’s report on the works being readmit was resolved not to do the Smithfield road ; to build two new bridges on Jones’ road during the summer, and to have plans and specifications prepared for a new bridge on Peckbam’s road. The clerk was instructed to place a deposit note of LSOO to the current account of the Board, and also to apply for a gravel reserve on Tripp’s road. Accounts to the amount of L 1032 17s were passed for payment.
