CRICKET.
The meeting of the Temuka Cricket Club, held in the Royal Hotel on Wednesday evening, was very poorly attended. Dr Rayn r was voted to the Chair. The minuttsif the previous annual meeting were read ;md continued. Mr Wood, the treasurer for the past season, read the following balance-sheet : liECKIPTS. £ s d Balance received from Football Club ... 0 9 3 Twenty-five Members Subscriptions 12 6 0 Total ... 12 15 3 Expenditure. Repairing Ground ... ... 11 0 0 'Timaru Herald,' Advertising 0 13 6 Locks .... ;,, ... 0 2 6 Balance in hand-, .V> ... 0 19 3 Total 12 15 3
The balance sheet was > approved, the balance 19s 3d to be traasferred to the credit oil the Football Ciub account A meeting of the Football Club is to be held at the Caledonian Hotel on Wednesday next, to wind up their .tccounts, when, as usual, any balance they may show, will be transferred to the account of the Cricket Club. The Football Club meeting should have been held first, but by au oversight this was not done. The officers for the ensuing season were then elected as follows : President, Dr Rayner ; V'ce-Presi-dent, Dr Gumming ; Captain, Mr A. Cox ; Deputy-Captain, Mr Macintosh ; Secretary, Dr Hayes ; Treasurer, Mr Strangman ; Committee, Messrs Tavender, Hardcastle, Macpherson, Carlyon, and Wood. A number of new members were proposed and elected. It was resolved *o play an opening match to-day, commencing at 2 p-m., when it is hoped all members will turn out. A committe meeting will be held after the match. A vote o thanks to the retiring officers, and one to the Chairman, terminated the meeting. The annual meeting of the Winchester Club, called for last Wednesday evening was adjourned till this evening. Steps were, however, taken to have the ground rolled. A disappointment awaited those who went next day to look oyer the ground. The levelled wicket looked, and looks, beautifully green from a distance, but this was found to be due to self-sown oats. The grass seeds sown either have not taken, or the frosts have lifted the young plants out of the ground. It will therefore be necessary to sow the ground afresh. This means, I take it, that the levelled portion of the ground will not be of service this season.
