COW AND DOG NUISANCE.

(to the editor of the temuka leader ) Sir, —Can nothing 1 be done to stop o* lessen what I call the ‘‘cow and dog nuisance” in this district 1 ? It is an almost nightly occurrence for one or more cows to roam through the streets long after slumber ought (o reign,, bellowing forth tiieir plaints, accompanied by a perfect din of barking ; for at the first moan of the cow or calf, as the case may. be, every cur in the place (and their name is legion) lifts up its sweet voice to make the night hideous. There are two questions I would like to ask, viz.—Are all the curs that infest this township registered 1 and if not, are the police doing their duty in the matter, as well as in that of stray cows ? Only this evening I was informed by a resident in the main road of great damage done in a garden last night by a calf belonging to a local. tradesman ; and -saw at the same time another brute wandering at the north end of the town. To any one afflicted with insomnole icy the evils spoken of are great, for when these wretched dogs, many of whom are useless curs, once start barking, it is frequently a matter of an hour or- two before they again become quiet. Is it permissible, Mr Editor, to Jay poison in one’s own grounds, that when they nightly trespass there they may meet their deserts.—l am, &c., i ■. : .Wakeful.
