[Pek Press Agency.] Auckland, Sep. 2 A public meeting to-day passed a vote of congratulation to Earl Beaconsfield and the Marquis of Salisbury on the result of the Berlin Conference. New Plymouth, Sep 2. A farm owned by Major Stapp at Tikorangi has been sold to Mr Taylor, of Canterbury, for £ll 10s an acre. At the sale of Strathford, a new Government township on the Mountain Road, a number of qnarter-acres were sold, one fetching £IBO. The total amount realised from the sale was £2215. The survey party on the Waimate Plains shifted from Rapokunui to Otakino to-day, where they will work on towards Omuturangi, the furthermost boundary. Te Whiti says that the 17th of March next will be the Ateratona, or day of blood, and after that day death himself and his brother at the entering of the gate (Parihaka), evidently referring to the general amnesty, to take place at a meeting called by Rewi on the 88th March. It is probable a compromise will be effected re the cession of Batoum, by the people paying tribute to Russia, and being allowed to maintain their present institußons and officials. August 27. The Australians are playing a strong eighteen of Hastings. Hastings’ first innings closed for 131. The Australians have three men out for 190. Bailey is not out for 100. Murdoch is not out for one.
