o [From Christchurch Papers.] The grain market is very quiet. Wheat shows a slight down ward tendency. Oats pi considerable quantity are held for higher rates than buyers are disposed to give. First-class barley is much wanted. Quotations are, for wheat 3slod to 4s 2d ; seed up to 4s 6d ; oats, 3s 9d to 4s 3d. ; seed, 4s 6d ; barley, 4s 9d to 5s 9d ; according to quality. A good deal of grass seed has changed hands during the week at from 4s 9d to 7s, according to condition and quality. Cocksfoot, 7d to 7-kl per lb. Seed potatoes are much wanted at £4 7s Gd to £4 15s. Messrs H. Matson and Co. sold on Saturday last, 24 acres 1 mod 28 perches of land, a portion of the Riccarton Estate, for £28,315, an average of £lO7 8s 8d per acre. The Hagley Lodge property, a part of the same estate, realised £1665, equal to £504 10s per acre. A small section at I ddington. 153 feet by 179 feet, with two houses, was seld by Messrs Waßon and Co. on Thursday, for £IOOO. The same firm passed in 532 acres at Ashburton for £2 10s per acre. Mr Charles Clark sold 586 acres on the Heathcote for £7044. Messrs J. T. Ford and Co. sold on Aug 9, 3380 acres of the Otaio Estate, at an average price of £l3 per acre, and 45 sections in the township of Tavistock at an average of £ll each. Messrs M’Lean and Winter sold in five farms on the Rakaia, 2372 acres at from £3 7s 6d to £7 10 per acre.
