Horscs having raced cu Saturday, there was little gailoping on the Hawera tracks yesterday morning. The course proper next the rails was available for fast work. Platinum Wings (Graham), who. showed deflnite iinprovement in her race on Saturday, sprintcd three furlongs in 40s. Battledress (Holland) also workcd on Uiis track and after a round of half pace work sprinted home the last three furlongs of his work in 394s. Battledress is in great order and promlses to strlp very flt for his opening race as a four-year-old at Trentham next month. The Wanganui Guineas entrants, War Eflort and Peter's Choice, were given good pace work. Both are engaged on the flrst day, when their running should indicate their prospects in the classic race a week later. . r Manpower is gailoping in good style Stjd is to have his flrst race of the scason at Marton on Saturday week. The Foxbridge fllly Vnlsheen\has wlntered particularly well and is getting through her preliminary work very satisfactorily. Valsheen will not be required until the Labour Day meeting at Waverley next month. Runsby, Clarice and Night Bay were aniong those out doing useful puee work, as well as a number of two-ycar-olds.
