Returns of Export Trade From Dominion Compared
Returns of export trade for 12 months ended Juno 30, 1942. compiled by the Government statistician, with those for the corresponding 12 months of 1940-41 shown in parentheses, are: Buttcr, value £14.951.738 (£18.675,678); quantities, cwts, 2,141,906 (2,689,781). Cheese, £11504,568 (£10,154,915); 2.633.158cwts. (2505.649). Beef, £1,952,327 (£2,328.053); 778 698cwts. (1,184,670). Lamb, £11,325,350 (£8.628.819); 3, 249, 172cwts. (2.441,836). Mutton. £1,624,946 (£1.616,130); 893,013cwts. (876.230). Pork. £1,817,856 (£1,613.561); 479,178cwts. (445,400). Wool, £14.437.073 (£11,611,429); 733.774 bales (591.660). Sheepskins, woolled and without wool, £2.430,725 (£1,667,404); skins, 16,223,317 (15,346.474). Tallow, £1,292,481 (£489,005); tons, 60.435 (22>690). Sausage casings to the value of £911.949 were exported against £653,479 for 1940-41. For the year ended June 30, 1942. exports were of the value of £74.039,000, compared with £57,892,000 for year ended June 30, 1939, the war beginning in September of that year. The value of exports for 1940-41 at June 30 was £65.767,000. Imports dropped from £57,543,000 in 1938 to £56,500.000 in 1939, and to £46,070.000 in 1940, rising next year (at June 30) to £46,185,000 and to £51,378,000 for 12 months ended June 30 last. Nett overseas funds at the end of June, 1938. were £26,126,000, and they ehrank to £9,088.000 at June 30, 1939. Then they improved until they reached £31.065.000 at June 30 last year and to £37,306,000 at the same date for this year.
