Invasion Theory
Rec. 11.30 p.m. Canberra, Sept. 1. The theory that invasion of Central Europe might best be tackled through Italy and the southern Balkans was advanced to-day by Rear-Admiral Georges Thierry D'Argenlieu, Fighting Frentfh Commander in the Pacific. While in j his opinion a channel invasion •jvould liberate northern France and the Lowlands, he thought it would be a difficult base for the invasion of Germany because of the enemy's defensive strength in the west. It was of major importance that Germany and Italy should be pushed right out of Africa. If the Allies still possess the initiative at Dakar, he said, they should act there immediately-
