Child Dies From Scalds After Fall Into Hot Pool

Rotorua. Aug. 31. i Severely scalded at Whakarewarewa on Fridav, a seven-year-old Maori child died in the Rotorua hospital on Saturday. The victim was Wairua-a-rangi Hemopo, daughter of Kira Hemopo, Whakarewarewa. The child. with several other children, was plaving with a tennis ball in a backyard in the Maori village. The ball bounced into one of the hot pools, and when the child went to retrieve it the ground at the S'de of the pool collapsed beneath her and she fell into the hot water. She was nulled out of the pool bv Miss Elsie Retima and taken to hospital, where she died early next morning An inauest was onened on Saturday by the coroner. Mr. W. L. Richards, and adjourned sine die.
