Heavy Penalties Urged For Misuse of Zoning System
He preferred to see zoning schemes working without having to take action against anyone. said Mr. H. M. Christie, zoning officer for the North Island, al New Plymouth last night, buf; should breaches of the regulations be committed penalties should be drastically enforced. Under a zoning system it sometimes happened that one man had a monopoly in one district, continued Mr. Christie. It was therefore incumbent on him to give faithful service to the residents of the district, who were compelled to Tely upon him- "We should not be timid about penalising any offenders to discourage further breaches of the regulations," he said. Mr. Christie alfjo referred to the misuse of petrol licenses. "Unfortunately they are misused in some cases," he said, "and we can only stop the practice by enforcing heavy penalties. We should make an example of such people. They deserve all they get."
