National Government Favoured by Hindus
Rec. 8.30 p.m. New Delhi, Aug. 30. The Mahasabha working committee, the militant Hindu organisation opposing the Congress, after a six-hour discuseion, appointed a sub-committee to prepare a draft rcsolution which ,it will consider to-morrow on the Mahasabha's attitude to the political situation. Discussion revealed that members generally favour the immediate declaration of Indian independence with a national Government representing all parties taking over all Federal powers A Lucknow communique announced that nine are believed to have been killed when the police fired on a mob of 200 attempting to attack a railway station between Tundla and Hathras. The police last night searched Mr. Jawaharlal Nehru's house at Allahabad for four hours and seized a quantity of books and papers. The police at Bombay made several arrests when crowds hoisted Congress flags ajid rowdy elements stoned buses, trams and other vehicles. A message from Bombay yesterday says that a number of people were killed and injured in clashes between the police and demonstrators in India. One person was killed and three were injured when crowds attempted to cut a railway em. bankment. The police fired on demonstrators at Paru police station in Bihar, killing two and wounding three. A crowd of 1000 which attempted to attack the railway and police stations at Benares was driven off by the police. Sixteen people were injured. Conditions at Benares have now returned to normal and the curfew has been withdrawn.
