Catholics at N.P. To Start a Club For Servicemen
Catholics at New Plymouth are to open a club for members of the armed forces and mercantile marine this afternoon. "Because the town already has the A.N.A. Club and the Spinsters' Club and a largpr club is proposed, we do not intend going into anything in a big way," the Rev. Father P. J. Minqgue said last night. "But we thought we would help things out." The club will occupy two large rooms upstairs in Hart's buildings, next the municipal library in King Street. The rooms will be open weekly on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 2 to 5 p.m., on Sunday mornings after early Mass, when breakfast will be served to communicants, and from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. the same day. One room will be reserved for dancing
and music and the other fpr reading and games. The form of entertainment for the men will depend on what they wish to do, but the present intention is to have dancing, community singing and such games as cards. Cups of tea and light refreshments will be provided in the afternoons. A danoe is tp be held on Friday evening to mark the opening of the club. It is probable the times the club will be opened will be extended later.
