Moonlight Desert Raid Follows Artillery Duel
Rec. 12.45 a.m. London, Aug. 29. A fierce British artillery duel near Ruweisak Ridge soon after sunset yesterday preceded British moonlight raiding excursions, reports Reuter's correspondent on the E1 Alamein front. One party engaged members of a German parachute regiment who were fighting alongside German and Italian infantry. Casualties were inflicted on paratroops in hand-to-hand bayonet, tommy-gun and grenade fighting.
