Crowded Race Train

i i Two locomoves were needed to haul r the 14 cars and a van of the Hawera race train on Saturday to Stratford, where another car was added. When the train left New Plymouth there were 229 passengers, and many others joined en route, including 200 at Stratford. The New Plymouth-WellLngton express also carried 80 passengers for Hawera, most of whom left the train at the racecourse. Although there was no special train from the south, the Wanganui-New Plymouth train brought a considerable number of passengers to Hawera.
