Temporary Storage Of Waste Rubber Causes Problem
With the Central Taranaki rubber drive completed last Saturday, and a large quantity of waste rubber on hand, the Stratford branch of the waste material committee is faced with the problem of its storage before disposal. At a meeting of the committee at Stratford on Thursday night a telegram from the Ministry of Supply, dated August 19, was considered, The telegram advised that all waste rubber collected should be retained at the depots until orders for its consignment were issuedWith a quantity estimated at three railway waggonloads at Stratford, a large amount dumped in the railway yard at Eltham, and further considerable quantities lying at dairy factories throughout Central Taranaki, the committee is trying to arrange for storage of the rubber at Stratford. Originally it was intended to load the rubber into railway trucks placed at the stations or sidings nearest to the depots on the final day of the drive — last Saturday — but that course is now impracticable. The committee decided to make regular collections of all waste material, including rubber, paper and metals, throughout Stratford on the first Saturday of each month, commencing on September 5. It was also decided to ask the borough council to insert in the agreement with the rubbish coliector a | clause precluding him from carting good waste paper to the dump, reports having been received that much paper was being lost that way.
