Minority-Black Renarde prime fancies.

(By "Blandford.")

Although confined to one day this year the combined meeting of the Egmont-Wanga-nui and Taranaki Hunt Clubs promises to be well up to the standard of former years, if not better. This fixture has long been recognised as one of the main attractions during the winter among hunt clubs and the meeting at Hawera to-day promises to be wel! up to the standard set formerly. Many patrons are disappointed that the best three-year-old of last season. Battledress, is not to run. and though the Poaterity gelding's appearance would have done much to stimulate interest in the Halcombe Memorial, the contest, although not strong in class, promises to be an interesting one. The chief sprint race, the Stratford Handicap, has drawn a good field and again a much-discussed runner in Whackie has been withdrawn. Prince Plato makes his debut as a four-year-old and he should be among the first flight of sprinters this season. On the minimum is the promising Black Renarde, who is expected to make a name for herself this season. The Hunt Cup has drawn one of the finest fields in this race for many years. Ind.ian Sun, Aussie Ra, Kinkle. Dorado, Smooger, Sir Col and Henry of Huntingdon appear to be the best prospects in a 'very open race and the event should provide spectators with a spectacular contest. Some very fine hacks figure in those events allotted to them and the best of them include Betterman, Aguilo, Golden Acre, Deolali, Lady Virginia. Night Ray. Sir Fox, Broiveine, Auburn Lad, Clarice, Voltaire, Broifort Star, War Effort, Skydonna, Enlarge, Corday and Flahuluk.
