Charge Against Farmer For Driving Horse Unshod
Because of illness he was not able to appear, wrote F. R. Voitre, farmer, Norfolk Road, who was charged in the Inglewood Police Court yesterday with having ill-treated a horse on August 17. He admitted having driven the horse unshod and explained that a neighbour had been carting his milk, but on August 17, owing to trouble with his milking machine, he had been late and had used the horse to take the milk himself. He had subsequently had the horse shod. He was driving on Norfolk Road when he noticed that Voitre's horse was lame in the off front foot, said Mr. T. Davis, S.P.C.A. inspector. who prosecuted through Mr. R. O. R. Clarke. Examination showed that the horse had not been shod and that its feet were worn down. Mrs. Voitre corroborated her husband's version of the affair. It did not appear to have been a bad case, said Mr. W. H. Woodward, S.M., in imposing a fine of £1 with costs £1 13s.
