Way To Get Seed Potatoes Outlined by Minister

With reference to seed potatoes for household planting the Minister of Primary Production, the Hon. W. J. Polson, has made an announcement iii an advertisement and from this it is assumed that no special forms are required, written application having to be made in the manner suggested, countersigned Jjy a police officer, and deposited with the nearest seedsnian not later .than August 31. information supplied by the Primary Industries Controlier states that as the supply of seed potatoes is limited and the quantity available is not sufficient to meet all demands, certain conditions have been drafted, compliance with which is essential before the potatoes can be supplied. No indication is given of the quantity of potatoes for seed that wiU be made available and those who desire to participate in the distribution must act promptly. The quantity of potatoes applied for must not exceed 281b. for any one household and the applicant must guarantee to use the potatoes that may be supplied to him solely for seed purposes. He must also certifv that he normally plants- * a quantity of seed potatoes for private use and that he has been unable to obtain supplies of seed. When the seedsman receives the application he has to forward particulara of the quantity of potatoes required to meet all applications received by "that date to the Primary Industries Controlier at Wellington by September 5. These closing dates are to be strictly adhered to. The advice of quantities required by seedsmen to meet applications is to be accompanied by a statement that the original applications have been retained for inspection by an officer of the Agricultural Department and that any potatoes supplied will be used only to fill such applications. If the quantity of potatoes available for this purpose is less than the total of the applications, these will be filled on a pro rata basis. A maximum price of 4d per lb. has been fixed as the retail figure at which potatoes supplied under this scheme may be sold. No cognisance will be taken of the variety or size of the seed. and individual applications forwarded direct to the Primary Industries Controlier will not be recognised.
