True humanitarianism helps people to help themselves, and the reformer who deals with the symptoms rather than the causes of social ills could learn something from Shakespeare, who knew that: There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so. When will reformers recognise that social progress begins with the lifting of mental living standards? —
