Railway Revenue At Hawera Station Continues To Rise
Rever.ue from all sources of outwards traffic at the Hawera railway station for the lour weeks ended August 14 was £841 greater than for the corresponding period of last year. Eight of the nine items recorded by the stationmaster, Mr. H. M. Smith, revealed increases. There Wcis a much greater demand f'.' ' railway transport than last year, the number of passengei-s travelling by both services being 4027, an increase of 1208 on last year. Cattle and calves numbered 372 fewer than last year, the number carried being 5110. On the other hand 888 more sheep and pigs were carried, the total being 1762. Greater building on farms was reflected in the increase of 24 tons in the 74 tons of timber handled. Other goods smounted to 752 tons, compared with 720 tons. Passengers paid £1129 in fares, an increase of £241, while goods netted £1388, compared with £806 last year. Parcels realised only £1 more than last year and miscellaneous goods £3 more. Revenue from all sources amounted to £2608, compared with £1J67.
