Churchill's Smile Good Indication Of Moscow Talks

Rec. 6.30 p.m. Rugby, Aug. Zb President Roosevelt's personal representative at the recent Moscow talks, Mr. Averell Harriman, told the London Press to-day that he was shortly returning to Washington to report to the President. He said that though he could saj nothing about the substance of the Moscow talks he found the same determination and confidence in the Russians as he found on his last visit with Lord Beaverbrook. "In order that there can be no misunderstanding, I would like to add," he said, "that the broad sniile which the photographs of the Prime Minister show in this morning's Press gives a good and eound indication of how the discussions went." At Washington the British Ambassador, Lord Halifax, discussed the general situation with President Roose- ' velt in a long conference at the White House. It was his first meeting with the President since his return from England. Afterwards Lord Halifax told newspapermen he was glad to see the President in such fine shape. While President Roosevelt had been kept very well in-
formed of Mr. Churchill's trip to Moscow and the Near East, he himself was able to present a few more detalls of certain phases of Mr. Churchill's conference. They did not have time to discuss tha Indian question, but the President wouid see him again "in a few daj's.
