Attack In Pacific Forecast by Chinese
Chungking, Aug. 25. . The Associated Press reports that the pewspaper Ta Kung Pao is of the lopinion that the Japanese are with- | drawing their forces from Chekiang and Kiangsi to prepare an attack against Australia, India or Siberia, "which would be more advantageous for Japan than wasting troops in unprofitable enterprises In China." The China Times also believes that the Japanese are preparing to attack the Allies. The paper urges the United Nations not to sit still waiting to be attacked. Rather, it urges them to launch now a general offensive against the Japanese. The Chinese recaptured Tengpu Kiangsin, inflicting great losses on the Japanese in a direct attack on Lishui. A miltary spokesman said that 50,000 ; Japanese troops had been moved from Chekiang to southern Shansi. It is be- i lieved they are planning to cross the ! Yellow River. The spokesman declared i that the Japanese concentration was in- j sufficient to attempt to cut the Northwest China supply route.
