Semi-final Trials At Hawera For The Hunt Clubs' Races
The Bemi-final gallops of Hawera horses for the combined hunt clubs' meeting on Saturday were performed yesterday tn good weather. The track, however, was holding and siow, the trestles being out 40 feet. The first of the -visitors to arrive was Mr. Findlay's maiden candidate Ring Scarf, by Ringmaster from Scarf Dance, a full retative to a distinguished performer, Veu« mond. A three-year-old, he has yet to Iive up to his breeding. . Vaipere (Turu) and Platinum Wmgs galloped four furlongs in a tiek under 56, VaJ Pere finishing a length and a half in f'pntDuncannon (Turu). accompanied by Bright Gesture (Graham) for four furlongs covered in 55, completed five in 1m 9s. , Duncannon it; working in good style and the going well. Retort (Graham), going at 15 to the furlong from the six furlongs, sprinted home smartly over the last two in 26 Y>. Bay Peter (Campbell) jumped away jvell ahead of Clarice at the half -mile and led to the finish in 54 3-5. , Poiysotis (Holland) and War Effort, (Mllls) were associated over five furlongs which, took lm Us, the last two 27. War Effort worked lazily and had to be shaken up to keep with rolysotis, who finished strongly. Cetawayo (Potroz), after taking 28 for the first two of a four-furlong sprint, completed half a raile in 54 Vi. Gitana Lass did a working gallop. Going from the seven furlongs barrier posts, Corday (Potroz) and Peter's Choiee (Holland) regiVtered 40% for three furlongs. Peter's Choice continued and completed half a mile in 55. Ring Scarf (Mills) sprinted smartly over three furlongu in 40 1-5, finishing fast. Battledress (Holiand) and Student Prince (Potroz) did h working gallop over a mile, the last half-mile being covered in 56. Star Quex (Campbell) is making improvement and sprinted three furlongs in 41%. Sir Call (Dombroski) was schooled over two steeplechase fences jumping well. Going from the seven, Bunsby (Holland) took 56 to cover half a mile.
