Release of More Than 500 Soldiers For Farms Granted
More than 500 Taranaki farmers and farm labourers have been released temporarily from the army so far this month, according to Mr. H. G. Wiison, secretary of the Taranaki Armed Forces Appeal Board. The figures, he said yesterday, gave an indication of the number of men released for short periods of farm work in recent months. The Armed Forces Appeal Board would continue to handle these cases as far as he was aware, said Mr. Wiison, when asked to comment on the fact that at Christchurch the National Service Department had taken over. the duties of the Armed Forces Appeal Board in that respect to avoid all unnecessary delay. "Although such action here would certainly relieve us of some work, I hardly think it is necessary," Mr. Wiison added.
