Family Gathering Marks Parents' Golden Wedding

Mr. and Mrs. W. QuickfaU. New Plymouth. celebrated the 50th anmversary of their marriage yesterday. 'pey received messages of congratulation from relatives and friends in many paris o New Zealand. A family gathering was held last night. Mr. Quickfall is the youngest son of the late Mr. Joseph Quickfall, who arrived in New Zealand by the ship Halcione on September 3, 1875. He was six years of age when he arrived at New Plymouth. From New Plymouth the family went to Wellington, theti to Nel6on and Picton and later returned to New Plymouth by the Taranaki. Mr. Quickfall's first work was with the late Mr. H. Okey on the making of part of the coastal road between New Plymouth and Opunake. He later worked on the gumfields in the North Auckland district and later, with Mr. H. Skeet, assisted in survey work at Mokau, Tongaporutu and Mimi. He was for some time employed in maintenance work for the Railway Department. For several years he was engaged in the sawmilling industry at Inglewood 'at Honry Brown and Co. mills. He worked for several years for Boon Bros., New Plymouth. For about 83 years he occupied a small farm holding in the Spotswood district, but retired about' four years ago: 1 Mrs.1 Quickfall was Miss Jane Alice Corbett, but was brought up, after her mother's death when she was an mfant, by Mrs. John Smith, who was formerly a Miss Faull, of Tikorangi, a member of one of Taranaki's pioneer families who travelled to New Plymouth by the William -Bryan. ; The marriage took place in St. Mary $ Church, New Plymouth, on August 24, 1892, the late ArchdCacOn Govett bemg the officiating minister, Mr. and Mrs. Quickfall have a family of two daughters and three sons, Mrs. C. G. Penwarden, Putaruru, Mrs. A. Dent, Brooklands, and Messrs. W. H., S. J„ and R. J. Quickfall, all of New Plymouth.
