Doubt About Compensation To Suppliers of Whole Milk
Uncertainty whether suppliers oi whole milk to a butter factory who were compelled to change to cheese and have now been directed to supply a butter factory again would share in the extra payment of lid a pound butterfat promised this season for suppliers so diverted was expressed at a meeting of the Tikorangi Co-op. Dairy Company Ltd. yesterday. Advice from the Minister of Marketing, the Hon. J. G. Barclay, stated that the ljd would be paid to all suppliers, who in the past two seasons had changed from butter to cheese and had now been changed back to butter manufacture, said the chairman, Mr. C. Foreman. He had made inquiries, but had not been able to obtain any definite advice whether the compensation was only for original home separation suppliers, or whether whole milk suppliers were to receive the whole or any part of the lid. However, he took it that all suppliers, whether they had supplied whole milk or home separated cream, would benefit. He understood that the IJd was being paid for one season to compensate suppliers for the extra distance they had had to cart their milk during the past two seasons to comply with the change to cheese. Some suppliers considered that, if the whole milk supplier was to receive lid compensation, then the home separated supplier, who had been put to the expense of providing a truck and cans in changing to whole milk, for which he had received only £27 10s compensation, was entitled to more.
