Driver From Okato Needed For School Bus Service
If a driver could be secured from the Okato district, the transporting of children from the coastal area to the New Plymouth high schools would be solved, at least until the end of this year, it was stated at a meeting of the New Plymouth High Schools' Board last night. A school master, Mr. W. J. Toomey. who volunteered to drive the bus and spend the week nights at Okato, was unable to continue next term, it was stated. The secretary, Mr. G. W. Watts, said he had already communicated with the chairman of the Okato school committee, Mr. P. C. Hill. The board decided that Mr. Watt communicate with Mr. Hill regarding the availability of a driver from Okato. Draft plans for a proposed new residence for the farm manager were referred to the building and farm committee. If approved, the committee was given authority to authorise the architect to call tenders. The need for further class-room accommodation being provided for preparatory pupils was referred to by the acting-principal, Mr. A. L. Moore. The question of necessary improvements to the school gully playing area was referred to the grounds committee to confer with the borough engineer.
