High Morale

Rec. 8.25 p.m. Washington, Aug. 22. There were between 2000 and 3000 New Zealand airmen in England, many of whom he had visited, said the New Zealand Minister at Washington, the Hon. W. Nash, speaking at a Press conference to-day on his return from England. As an example of their morale, which ( he said was particularly high, he cited an occasion when eight New Zealand plane crews, totalling 40 to 50 men, failed to return from a mission. The commanding officer offered to give the others a few days' relief, but none of the New Zealand fliers accepted, insisting upon returning into the air the next evening. Mr. Nish implied that the loss on this occasion was among the highest ever suffered.
