The Christchurch E.P.S. held its most useful trial on Saturday evening, when the personnel was called upon to deal with 100 imrehearsed incidents. The incidents, represented - by white sacks with descriptions of the emergencies, were distributed by lorries, gunshots being used to announce their occurrence. The alarm was sounded at 8.5 o'clock, and although the alert had been announced in the afternoon some people on the way to dances or to.theatres had not completed their journeys before the trams stopped running. The all clear was given at 9.20 o'clock. The regional commissioner, Colonel W. T. Churchward, said the blackout was the best he had yet seen.
