Return To Family Life
of a crowd.—Lady Sinclair, wife of the British Air Minister.
What kind of life do we want for our own people? The first thing I want to see is the return of family life. I want it to be possible for all people to know they can rparry and have a reasonably-sized family to be able to clothe, feed, house and educate them and give them a decenl start in life. That means family allowances, extended education, improved health services and better houses— all capable of being accomplished, The family is the basis of the life of the nation. It is, after all, the natural condition for the higher forms of life in the animal world progressing to man. It is true that ants and bees — admirable but not very endearing creatures — have no family life, but I think after the war we shall have had enough of communal life— in the services, in factories, in hostels and evacuation centres — and we shall all long for a place oi our own where we can really be ourselves and not just one
