Essential Service For Every one In Canada
British Official Wireless.
Rec. 6.30 p.m. Rugby, Aug. 20. That the Canadian Government is determined to see every able-bodied man and women undertake some form of essential service in the forces or elsewhere was stated by the Rt. Hon. W. L. Mackenzie King, Prime Minister. He announced a comprehensive plan to this end, stating that the task of calling up men for military service was being transferred from the National War Services Department to. the director selective of service registration. Women are to take the place of men, non-essential civilian activities are to be curtailed or eliminated and day nurseries are to be set up to take care of children for women who take the places of men in war industries. Labour training is to be continued on a growing scale to help to overcome the shortage of skilled workers. There is to be more control over and direction of employment.
