Fantastic Escape

Special Australian Correspondent.

Rec. 10.45 p.m. Sydney, Aug. 20. A fantastic story of escape from death has been told by an American air-gunner, Sergeant G. C. Hollister. He was an under-gunner in a heavy bomber which attacked Zeros over New Guinea. When a cannon-shell blew off the door of his turret Sergeant Hollister fell out backwards, but his feet were caught behind a bar connecting the twin guns, leaving him hanging in mid-air. He shouted for help through the transmitter of the plane's inter-communication system. Another gunner pulled him back into the plane, rescuing him from a drop of 25,000 feet.
