21,960 EGGS SENT
RECORD AT STRATFORD EGG CIRCLE'S EIG EXPORT Evidence of the good response made by Central Taranaki poultry farmers and others to the national appeal for greater production of eggs is contained in the fact that on Thursday of last week the Stratford Egg Circle sent 21.960 eggs to the Internal Marketing Board at Wellington. The eggs were packed in 61 erates, there heing 20 dozen eggs in each crate. The aggregate weight of the consignment, which was the largest individual consignment of eggs made to Wellington in the 18 years' history of the Stratford Egg Circle, was one ton 14 cwt. The consignment represented part of the intake of eggs to the circle for the previous five days. When interviewed by a Daily News reporler last night an official of Ihe circle said that it would be hard to place a specified figure on the average export of eggs to the Internal Marketing Board at Wellington, for owing to seasonal ronditions and the extent of local consumption ihe aniount available for Wellington export fluctuated from month to month. Nevertheless it was known that Thursday's was the largest j'et. The circle. he said, had about 90 members, which meant. that the eggs came from all over Central Taranaki. The egg .producing season was by no means at its flush yet, he continued, and would not be until almost the end of Octobcr. In the meantime, many poultry farmers were still engaged on largescale incubation operations. Taking cverything into account he considered that so far ns actual egg production was conccrned the season promised to be good. So much so that the Stratford Egg Circle was finding it necessary to make greater provision to handle the greater quantity of eggs brought in by an increasing membcrship. He considered that the arrangements now made at Stratford would cnpe with any extraordinavy • production of eggs in Central Taranaki during Uie flush of Lhe season.
