AIR FORCE SUCCESS
ALL SOCCER TROPHIES Air Force easilv defeated Albion by eight goals to two in the final of the Duff Rosebowl Soccer competition at New Plymouth on Saturday. Proceeds were for the Spitfire fund. It was rather a dull exhibition by the Albion team. Air Force held the upper hand throughout and seemed to take things very easily in the second half when players waited for their opponents to clear Ihe hall without troubling to tackle them. Soon after the commencement of the game Wiliiams scored from a good movement., his goal being followed in quick succession by goals by Pengelly and Potter, Wiliiams adding another before halftime. Throughout the first half Albion seldom penetrated Air Force territory but on the few occasions that Nicoll sent his forward line away promising movements were spoiled by weak attempts to goal instead of centering to Twaddle, who has a dangerous kick when given the opportunity to test the goalie. On resuming Albion attempted to keep its goal clear by long clearing shots but this did not give much relief as Hodder and Hindle sent the Air Force forward line away on attack when Albion seemed to be gaining the advantage. Wiliiams added his third goal after a pretty passing movement in which the ball passed from toe to toe of the whole Air Force forward line. Pengelly centering to Wiliiams. who made no mistake with a low shot. At that stage the Air Force team appeared to take things easy and from a forward movement Albion secured its first goal. Whiting rushing Algie and finding the net. This sethack stirred the Air Force team to action again. Potter clefealing Woorid with an easy shot which Woodd failed to hold. Within a short time Pengelly found the Albion goalie out of position and added another goal. With only a few mintues of play remaining Twaddle scored for Albion and just before the call of time Wiliiams again scored for Air Force. Air Force has now won the three Irophies which are competed for annual]y in the Taranaki Football A.ssociation competitions. holding the Julian Cup, Priest Shield and Duff Rosebowl. Unfortunately for Taranaki and the Air Force team in particular, Sergeant T. Hindle has resigned from the air force to enter the army.
