BOWLING AT MANAIA
CLUB'S ANNUAL MEETING GOOD SEASON REVIEWED It was unanimously agreed to favour the continuation of banner matches in the coming season at the annual meeting the Manaia Bowling Club. Delegates were instructed to support the continuation of the banner matches. The balance sheet revealed a credit balance of £53 0s ld. Receipts amounted to £126 ls 7d and expenditure to £73 I ls 6d. The chairman congratulated the I club on the healthy position of the j finances, which. he said, was due to the work of the secretary, Mr. W. R. O. Spooner, and to members' co-operation. i Votes of sympathy with the relatives I 0f the late Messrs. A. Franklin, a foun- ] dation member and life member of the I club, and J. Allen, a member, were i expressed. Members stoocl in silence as a mark of respect.
The president in his annual report said thr.t the season had been a very successful one. The green had stood up to wear well. Mr. Badland's efforts to keep the green up to concert pitch were to be commended. as was the good work done by the willing workers, who had helped to get the green in order for the forthcoming season. During the season the club had won the Carrington cup from Kaponga. Club competitions resulted: Club championship singles (president's cup), Mr. V. Adlam; handicap pairs fBourke Bros. cups), Messrs. Paul and Snowdon; handicap singles (Paul cup), Mr. Paul. The Tony Johnson banner was won by Manaia from the Auroa club. The Bone of Contention trophy, which had been presented by the ]ate Mv. Franklin, had been won by the "old bufifers." Three members of the club had visited the South Island with the Taranaki touring bowlers. The club had entered in the South Taranaki Easter tournament. The club was still a member of the greens' research committee. The excellent financial position was largely due to the efforts of the secretary. Mr. Spooner, whose work was greatly appreciated. Thanks to the executive committee for their efforts in making the season a success were expressed. A heat point had been installed in the kitchen, buildings painted and the surroundings were maintained in good order. The election of officers resulted: Fatron, Mr. F. Mourie: president, Mr. J. W. Snowdon; vice-president, Mr. E. Bourke; secretary anrl treasurer, Mr. W. R. O. Spooner: committee, Messrs. G. R. Watts. B. Paul A. Espiner, W. Auton, A. H. Yarrow; hon. auditor, Mr. V. H. Hobday; greenwarden. Mr. E. Bourke; greenkeeper. Mr. B. Badland; competitions managcr, Mr. B. Paul; selector, Mr. G. Clark; match committee, Messrs. G. Clark and V/atts: delegate to the Taranaki Bowling Centre. Mr. J. W. Snowdon; delegate to the South Taranaki Easter tournament committee, Messrs. E. Bourke and J. W. Snowdon; hon. coach. Mr. A. Espiner; rinks committee, Messrs. W. Bourke and V. Adlam. Mr. A. Braid was elected a new member. Tlie annual report and balance sheet of the Taranaki Bowling Centre was received and attention was drawn to the lack of knowledge of the rules of the ganie in correspondence from the centre. ' Mr. W.
