Modern Amenities in a Modern Town

The amenities of a modern town are possessed by Patea, which in some ways is better served than many towns much greater in population. It is well endowed with schools, library, electricity supply, and recreational facilities, the Mayor of Patea, Mr. E. F. H. Hemingway, being an ardent supporter of all forward movements. In his capacity as chairman of the Wanganui Education Board he has served the district well.

The enthusiasm that has marked the activities of the Patea Chamber of Commerce since its inception less than a year ago is characteristic of the local bodies of the district. The growth of the chamber under the presidential guidance of Mr. F. Ramsbottom, with Mr. J. Cunnison as secretary, has been meteoric. more than 50 members having joined alrea*lj#. Every aspect of the commercial life of fhe community is watched by this body of men, who have as their objective the betterment of the town and the promotion of better business relations and conditions. A monument to the foresight and generous support of its public spirited citizens are the Patea dornain and the seaside park.
