Milking Machines.
A very lmportant part of the mvestigation at Wallaceville Research Station concerns the effect of milking machines on the production of mastitis. Several dairy herds have been kept under observation for this purpose, and a committee in which the Taranaki Federation of Dairies is represented, has been set up to co-ordinate the work in connection with milking machines. One of the results of the inquiry has been the evolution of an outfit for testing milking machine gauges, which it is suggested might be installed at dairy factories so that suppliers could have the vacuum guages of their machines tested ■ periodically and thus be certain at just what vacuum his machine is operating Starter Rooms. Since investigations proved the value of a special room for the storage and development of cheese starters at factories several dairy companies in Taranaki have made, or are making, rooms available
