Taranaki Pig Clubs.

During last season pig clubs in Taranaki produced 52 litters cornpared with 36 the year previous although no new clubs were formed. The average weight at eight weeks of these litters was 37.11b as against 42.531b, but the cost per pig fell from 3s 8d to 3s 7d. Of the 52 litters, the average of 8.9 were born to each sow and 6.8 were weaned, disclosing a mortality of 2.1 of all the pigs born. Rubber Tractor Tyres. A survey by Professor E. G. McKibben, of Iowa State College (U.S.A.), shows that farm users of tractor rubber tyres estimate them to last an average of seven years (says an American correspondent). The use of rubber-tyred tractors averages about 1000 hours per year. With reasonable care the average repair cost was negligible, even on the oldest tyres. Strainer for Water. Where rain water is collected in a barrel under a down-spout an old stocking tied under the spout will serve as a strainer to remove twigs, leaves, feathers, and the like. The stocking should be attached so that it can be removed for cleaning.
