ORGANIST RETIRES
RECORD SERVICE PERIOD After a record period of -43 - years as organist to the Whiteley Memorial Church at New Plymouth, Mr... G. H. White is retiring. He will officiate .at tomorrow night's service but this • will be his final appearance. Mr. White first took up his present position in 1897 and he is probably the only organist in New Zealand at the present time who has occupied his office for s. long a term. He has played the present organ in Whiteley Church;"since it was opened in April, 1927, and he also played its predecessor, which was originally purchased and installe'd for ; use in the church building in Liardet, Street, which preceded the present' Whiteley Memorial Church. Mr., White has also c-nducted the choir on occasions in some of the.major musical undertakings, in which the late' Dr. E. A. Walker and Mr. H. Temple White, a brother. acted in the position of organist. Former members of the ch'oir . are joining with present members in the service on Sunday night as a tribute of appreciation of the long and loyal service of Mr. White, to whom a complimentary social is to be tendered at an early date.
