MAKAKA GIFT EVENING

Guests of honour at a gift evening in the Makaka hall were Miss I. Bankhead and Mr. E. Phillips, whose wedding takes place at Awatuna this week. Friends and relatives were present from all parts of Taranaki. The evening was spent in dancing, music being played by Miss W. West, Auroa. Extras were played by Mr. Ramsay Boyd. A Monte Cai'lo dance was won by Miss E. Frost and Mr. Grey, and a Monte Carlo waltz by Mr. and Mrs. Upsom. Mr. E. John, in making a presentation, referred to the popularity of the couple and the help they had always given with sports and social affairs of the distrilt. Mr. Bromford, on behalf of the Makaka Tennis Club, presented them with a gift. Mrs. M. Bourke, president of the Awatuna branch of the W.D.F.U., presented Miss Bankhead with a posy and a gift from members. Miss Bankhead had been a iunior member for several years.
